The Year of NO-ish

The Year of No-ish

Who has read Shonda Rhime’s book The Year of YES? If you haven’t, I highly recommend it.

The book is all about overcoming fears and saying yes to things that scare you. I think this book is super inspirational and a must read for anyone that needs to get out of their shell.

Here’s my problem:

I LOVE doing things.

I can count on my fingers the amount of weekends that I actually spent at home in LA in 2018 or had no plans at all!

For reference, here’s a little list of all the things I did this year:

Disney World, Paris (in a weekend), Napa, Paso Robles (x2), Portland, Rome, London & Scotland, Temecula (x5), Santa Barbara (x4).

Fun right?? The downside to doing all the things, is that I spent SO much money this year. Like. Not putting myself into debt or anything, but spending unnecessarily. My bank account definitely needs to recoup. My body probably could too.

One of my best friends has the same problem and has decided to do a year of NO. A year of saving money, taking time for herself and just overall physically committing herself to less.

The Year of No-ish

I’ve decided to do something similar. I’m calling it my Year of No-ish.

How is that different than Kristin’s plan?

Well, it mostly means that I am committing the year of 2019 to empower myself.

Am I going to deny everything I want to do and every trip I want to take?

No, because that would make me unhappy.

The Year of No-ish doesn’t mean that I’m saying no to opportunities and chances to spend time with friends. It just means being more intentional about spreading myself so thin that I have no time to reflect and focus on me and my goals.

What I am saying YES to:

Take less trips.

Save more money.

Be more intentional in my relationships.

Cook more at home!

I’m taking 2019 back for myself and I’m going to try and keep myself accountable with updates on my progress!

I love the idea of New Years resolutions. There is something about that “refresh” button we all hit at the beginning of the new year that is so inspiring.

What I don’t love about resolutions is that for so many, they are empty promises that are left unfulfilled as soon as February rolls around.

Instead, I’m going to make myself a list of goals for 2019.

I hope that I meet them all, but as long as I am working towards them, I’ll be happy. Basically, I’m making resolutions and calling them goals haha.

The difference, I hope, is that I’ve been thinking a lot about who I am as a human and who I would like to be. I’m hoping these goals get me closer to that person and keep me accountable.

Goals for 2019:

  • Reduce the amount of waste that I produce. Ie. Use less straws, plastic, and choose products that are more environmentally friendly.
  • Pass my WSET level 2 test with distinction!
  • Continue growing my Instagram account and hopefully reach 15k followers!
  • Add more content to the blog! I’d love to hear what you want to see!
  • Explore LA more! I’m always travelling and never take time to explore my own city!
  • Find fun activities that require spending little-no money
  • Read at least 10 books this year.
  • Get myself into a daily routine that makes me more productive.
  • EXERCISE – Total New Years resolution, but it needs to be done.
  • Adjust my eating habits to eat less and more healthy! (Meal planning anyone??)
  • Volunteer more

I may add to these goals throughout the year, but I think this is a good start!

What are your goals for 2019? Do you have a plan? Anyone else want to join the Year of No-ish? I encourage you to sit down and think about what you’d like to accomplish next year. Let me know your top goals below!
